Uoma technology behind a new kind of real estate service launched by MTV3
Jokakoti.fi is the first full-blooded RIA Mash-Up service targeted at the general public
MTV Oy is today launching the Jokakoti.fi online service, the technical implementation of which is done by Uoma, a company specialising in building e-Services. The service, which is targeted at people wanting to find a new home, differs in content from the current large online real estate marketplaces in that, in addition to information on the properties, it also offers information on the residential areas and residents in the area. Moreover, the usability and intuitiveness of the service are a generation ahead of the competitors.
“In all likelihood, Jokakoti.fi is the first Mash-Up service implemented purely with RIA technology and aimed at such a wide audience in Finland. In practice, this means that the Jokakoti.fi website gathers together services from various sources and users can tailor the service to their liking,” says Juha Lamminkari, CTO of Uoma Oy.
In addition to homes for sale and to let, the Jokakoti.fi website offers various maps of, for example, service selection in the area. There is also statistical information on age and income distribution in the residential area, as well as market information on the development of the housing trade. Users can also search for properties on the basis of living environment and services available.
“The challenge in developing the service has been the smooth management of large masses of information. More information on properties and people is arriving all the time, but searches and comparisons must still run quickly and effortlessly,” says Lamminkari.
The Jokakoti.fi service has been designed from the standpoint of the user. Particular attention has been paid to the ease and rapidity of searches and comparisons, as well as an intuitive user interface.
“We chose Uoma to implement the service because they could commit to a tight schedule and they kept it till the end. Moreover, Uoma was willing to work on achieving an easy-to-use service. The service has been flexibly tweaked along the way on the basis of test user feedback,” says Juha Juosila, Director of Web Businesses at MTV Oy.
The Jokakoti.fi service is open to real estate agents and private home-sellers. In addition to the website, the MTV3 channel will run a half-hour Jokakoti.fi programme every Sunday morning, which will present properties advertised on the website with video and still photos.
The online service can be found at www.jokakoti.fi.

Onesta Solutions to acquire Uoma – the new company aims to be the leading provider of easy-to-use e-Services in Finland
Expertise in rich Internet technologies and content management solutions under the same roof.
The Finnish providers of information systems, Onesta Solutions Oy and Uoma Oy, have joined forces. Onesta has acquired the entire share capital of Uoma through an exchange of shares. Following the acquisition, the company is continuing its activities under the name Uoma Oy, owned by its senior management and personnel, with an approximately 40% share of Avaus Consulting Oy.
The combined company offers its customers solutions from conceptualisation and design of easy-to-use user interfaces to the delivery and integration of background systems. The aim of the acquisition is to combine the usability benefits achieved with advanced RIA (Rich Internet Applications) with organisations’ e-Services and operative information systems.
“The new-generation Web 2.0 technologies will revolutionise the ease-of-use and interactivity of information systems. Thus far, the Finnish markets have been lacking a systems provider who could combine the innovative know-how of digital media and systems competence. We believe that customers will appreciate the opportunity to get a complete solution from one company instead of having to shop around for pieces of the system like before,” says Harri Roschier, the Chairman of the Board at Avaus Consulting.
The combined company employs 40 content management, programme development and user interface design professionals. The combined pro forma turnover for 2007 was about €4 million and the profit before amortisation (EBITDA) about €0.6 million. The CEO of Onesta, Samuel Salmenlinna, will assume the position of company CEO. The CEO of Uoma, Juha Lamminkari, will assume the position of CTO.
“The acquisition brings spearheading expertise in both RIA technologies considerably improving the usability of information systems, content management and electronic customer service under the same roof. Together, we put new ways of operating and technological opportunities at the disposal of large and mid-sized Finnish companies, with which they are able to utilise their systems and contents easier and more effectively than before, ” says Samuel Salmenlinna.
“The new RIA technologies can be used for building an application for use over a network from beginning to end, or for creating a new, faster and more flexible user interface for a cumbersome enterprise resource planning system. Onesta’s strong experience in content management and integration of information systems provides the basis, ensuring effective delivery of increasingly comprehensive systems projects,” says Juha Lamminkari.
The combined company provides consumers with the new technologies found to be most functional in testing for corporate applications and electronic customer service. The tools include Adobe’s Flex technology, Microsoft and open source Ajax technologies. The content and document management solutions utilise, among others, Livelink products by the Open Text Corporation, Microsoft’s server products and other SOA-based (Service Oriented Architecture) solutions. The company is a Gold Certified Partner of Microsoft, Adobe’s highest level Premium Partner and Premium Partner of Open Text.
